Job Description

ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS The county is composed of six Constituencies, 15 administrative divisions namely: Ainamoi,Belgut, Kabianga, Bureti, Roret, Cheborge, Sigowet and Soin. Other Admibnistrative Divisions are: Kunyak, Chilchila, Kamasian, Kipkelion, Londiani, Sorget and Chepseon. These are further su-devided into 85 locations that are further sub-divided into 209 sub-locations. It covers an area of2,479 sq. km.

Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level may be deployed as a head of a unit at Headquarters or as a Sub-County Structural Engineer.

The officer will be responsible to the Principal Superintending Engineer for work programmes in all the functional areas and training and development of staff under him/her.

The duties and responsibilities include the following: –

Design, detailing and site supervision of structures in various materials and forms of construction;

Checking   and   monitoring   projects designed by consulting engineers;

Directing and controlling of engineers and Structural Assistants working in the specific project.

Supervision of structural, civil and marine works prepared by the   Department   and   consulting   engineers;

Enforcement   of   specifications, compliance with engineers’ drawings, conditions of contract, quality control, approval and measurement of completed works, progress reports and guidance of Sub-County structural engineers on all technical aspects of the work.

vi.    Supervision and control of applied research projects pertaining to structural materials, foundations, structural elements, and constructional techniques, marine and building technology.

Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

Served in the grade of Senior Superintending Engineer (Structural) or comparable and relevant position in the Public service for at least three (3) years;

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;

Be registered with the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);

Current valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Registration, Board of Kenya;

Corporate membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);

Attended a Strategic Leadership Development Course lasting not less than Six (6)   weeks from a recognized Institution; and

Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of structural programmes including supervision of professional and technical staff; and shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
